Grandma’s shortbread on Grandma’s silver

This is our classic family recipe, handed down from generation to generation. From Great Grandmother Stafford through the generations. We even have the original cookie cutter, it doesn’t taste the same made in another shape!

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. You can’t double this recipe, it just doesn’t work out the same.

Ingredients:

1 cup softened butter

2/3 cup powdered sugar

2 cups flour

  Directions:

  • Cream butter, beat in sugar until fluffy and light, using electric beater. Stir in flour.

  • Knead until dough crakcs, about 5 minutes.

  • Roll dough out to 1/4 inch thick between 2 pieces of parchment paper. Use cookie cutter to cut out the shortbread.

  • Bake on ungreased cookie sheet 10- 12 minutes.

  • Burns easily, keep a close watch, but some of us are partial to the lightly browned version!

  • Grandma Burton ALWAYS used candied cherries. We mix it up with cherries and chocolate!
